Sustainable Salons

Your ponytails have power too!

At least 4,000 ponytails are needed each year to make enough wigs for those living without hair as a result of
medically-induced hair loss-conditions. Click here to find out more about where your pony goes.

Don’t throw out your ponies.
Send them to Sustainable Salons!

This cool organisation distributes them to charities and local wigmakers where they can become wigs for people going through medically induced hair-loss conditions such as alopecia and cancer or help fund other life-changing programs!

Simply follow the steps below to donate your ponytails after you #RockTheChop!

Decide who's chopping

All Sustainable Salons stylists are specially trained to cut ponytails for donation. Search for one near you and ask if they will help you at your event.
Reach out to your hairdresser and ask them to attend your event to chop your pony!
Or you can ask a friend or family member to do the honour.

Measure your ponytail

Sustainable Salons accept hair from people of any age, gender, hair type and hair colour as long as the hair is properly prepared and measures the correct length.
They recommend measuring your hair before you cut your ponytail - that way you can see if even just a little more can make a super special impact!

Measure your pony

No thank you!

Sustainable Salons can't accept:
wet hair, dreadlocks, synthetic hair, loose hair, and ponytails less than 20cm

Chop correctly for donation

If you can’t find a Sustainable Salons stylist to cut your hair at your event, please download the Ponytail Donation Toolkit and take it with you to your event.

This toolkit includes Ponytail Donation Guidelines and a Ponytail Donation Form.
