I'm doing it for Mackenzie

Thursday 28th May
I heard about Mackenzie from my beautiful friend Zahra Lyons.

Mackenzie was described as a bright soul with the most caring heart, beautiful laugh and wild imagination.  Mackenzie loved dancing, singing and of course unicorns and rainbows, she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up so she could help people. Despite everything she went through, she was always seen with a smile on her face, taking pleasure in brightening the day of others.

In 2023, at age 5, Mackenzie was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma. A very rare, aggressive and invasive form of liver cancer primarily affecting babies and young children. 

After her diagnosis Mackenzie had endured, 1 liver transplant, 54 rounds of chemotherapy, 45 surgeries/biopsies and 23 doses of radiation. Unfortunately, she did not win her battle to cancer and passed away may last year.

Though I did not know Mackenzie or her family personally, I was truly moved by her story. This year I will be donating my hair in honour of her.
