A Cut for a Cause Close to My Heart

Did you know that 1 in 2 Queenslanders will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime?

I am taking part in the Ponytail Project on May 12 alongside my cohort in honor of my grandma on my mums side, who passed away in September last year after an inoperable malignant brain tumor was discovered. I also want to remember my cousin, who passed as a teenager, and my grandpa on my dads side, who passed away in May 2014 from mesothelioma.

Cancer has affected my family in a very personal way, and this is a meaningful way for me to give back and support others going through treatment. Donating my hair is a small act that I hope can help someone feel more confident, while also raising awareness and funds for cancer research.

Throughout the year, I’ll be growing my hair as long as possible, alongside peers all across Queensland, before chopping off my ponytail and rocking a brand new hairdo. Every ponytail chopped will make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer #chopforchange.

All funds raised will go towards cancer research, prevention programs and support services. This means everything from transport to get cancer patients to and from their medical appointments, to assisting childcare facilities to keep kids safe from the sun.
