I'm rocking the chop on 04/08/2026
I’m rocking the chop to put a stop to cancer!
I'm taking part in Cancer Councils Ponytail Project this year as my Uncle was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer and after a 12-month battle, passed away on the 27/12/2025.
Losing a loved one to cancer impacted every part of our family's life.
Watching my Aunty care for my Uncle throughout his battle with colorectal cancer showed me the devastating impact cancer has on an entire family, not just the person diagnosed. From the constant hospital visits and specialist appointments to managing medications and treatment plans, I saw how exhausting and emotionally draining the journey became for her. Much of her life began revolving around caring for him, ensuring he was comfortable and supporting him through every stage of his illness.
One of the hardest parts to witness was seeing her watch someone she loved, suffer in pain. The physical decline, fatigue, and emotional toll that cancer placed on my Uncle deeply affected her. There were many moments of fear, sadness and helplessness as she tried to remain strong. Despite her own exhaustion and caring for her children, she continued showing up every day to provide care, support and comfort for him.
The emotional strain affected everyone differently, with family members trying to support one another while processing the reality of losing someone they loved.
Since my Uncle passed away, the loss has continued to impact our family deeply and shown me the long-lasting effects cancer leaves behind. It is not only the loss of a person, but also the emotional weight, memories and changes that remain with a family forever. He is my why.
I’ll be growing my hair as long as possible, alongside peers all across Queensland, before chopping off my ponytail. The funds that are raised will support Queenslanders impacted by cancer. Every donation big or small will make a difference in someone's life.
